Preparing Questions for an Inquiry

1.  What is your Key question for your Natural Disaster study?
        e.g.
What type of weather system causes a flood?

2. What are your 4 - 6 focus questions related to your key question?

e.g. 1. Does certain land forms suffer flooding more than others?
      2. What processes are put in place to protect communities?
       3. How much rain in what time span is the most devastating?
       4 What is needed to happen to make land productive again?
       5. Can houses be relived in after being under water?

Once you have  chosen your topic, please prepare your Inquiry Questions.

As you search for the topic that sparks a key question and focus questions on Natural NZ disasters and preventative measures we can make to lessen their impact, spend a little time on this website looking at the timeline of Natural Disasters that have occurred in NZ since records were kept. Preparing for the Olympics

Wow, in another few days the Olympic Games in Rio will get underway. It will be an exciting time as we see how we compare to other individual athletes and teams in the World.

The following article is an update of our athletes arrival in Rio, the latest successful athletes to make the team, and the preparation underway as athletes prepare themselves for the competitions.

TASK 1
Your task is to read the campaign news and then select one of the events to write a brief report on to share.  Please remember to put the work into a google doc, name and share it with your whanau teacher, or your literacy teacher. We do not mind we just want to see our great motivated learners working independently on self chosen tasks.

As the Olympics are held in Rio this year here are some facts about Brazil. Your task is to either prepare a world map and show where Brazil and Rio are, plus travel routes from NZ to get there: or produce a information flyer with key information to help a tourist travelling to Brazil.

Welcome to term 3 2016.

Hi everyone.
I hope you have had a wonderful break and your back ready for another term of learning.
As you can see our daily planning will all be done on this blog.
We will still be using google classroom but it will be mainly used for notices and handing out assignment.
One positive part about using a blog is that your parents can track your what learning we are covering in class and help you when you access your learning at home. Also if you are sick and would like to continue your learning at home you can.
The other cool part about this is that we will be linking your own blogs to our year 8 web site. Your parents will be able to go onto this site a comment on your learning and help support you in your learning. Remember that learning here at Tarawera High school is a partnership between you, the teachers, and your parents and caregivers.

We will also be welcoming a new staff member to our team. Charyl McNicholas will be starting with us in week 2. She is filling in for Mrs Smith while she is on leave. We look forward to working with her and wish her all the best for the term.

Our year 8 website will be used to help support students in their learning.
It has a wide range of resources and student blogs will soon be uploaded to this sites.
